Show Review, October 2, 2025:
“On stage, a girl with long curly black hair is swaying left to right with her grey guild motherfucking cool looking guitar. She sings out words, plays her guitar and enchants anyone who locks regards with her while the bassist dressed with an oversized green slick shirt is, well let's put it this way, making love to his bass as he chants out the groove. The drummer in the back is controlled, tamed yet gashed with a wildness that is subtle yet thrilling. The guitarist seemed straight out of sitcom was a melody virtuoso. He definitely knew a thing or two about harmonizing and adding variations to the chords the singer played.

Together, the four musicians fought a relentless battle against time as they spewed their good vibes and great songs upon us the audience who seemed at first quite tired as it was Thursday. But as the songs went on more and more bodies were drained and dragged through the tsunamies of rythms and by the end of the set, everyone had indulged and dipped more than a toe in Museums trail of sheer psych rock music. I didn't know them at all, but I knew that from now on, I would be running wild through Montreal and who knows maybe I'd even have to hitch hike across Canada to see them at every single one of their shows.”

“As far as debut records go, ‘Sink Your Teeth in My Brain’ is mightily impressive. Expansive and nuanced, this two-track EP sees Canadian outfit Museums indulging into indie minimalism with ‘Fieldfare’, then switching to hidden psychedelia and a certain lo-fi charisma. Crucially, the distortions are all tame, yet sometimes punchy. Follow-up ‘Sink Your Teeth’ is more earthy and raw, leaving electronica behind for a healthy slice of shoegaze energy.”

Interview with EQC, recorded Nov 2024, released March 2025

« Cette montée en puissance transforme la chanson d’une ballade douce et mélodique en une pièce énergique et percutante, démontrant la capacité du groupe à manipuler les dynamiques et à jouer avec les attentes de l’auditeur. »

- Iggy Magazine

“Most bands would kill to be able to release this pair of aces as their first offering, but as great as they are, it feels as if Museums have effortlessly thrown these songs out as if making such succulent music came easily to them. Maybe it does; perhaps they just make it look that way.”

- David Franklin, Big Takeover

“Fieldfare is a beautiful blend of past and present, showcasing Museums’ ability to craft timeless, evocative music.”

- Last Day Deaf

“Museums demonstrates their ability to combine solid, relevant stories with ethereal, psychedelic sounds. The sound design is rich and engrossing, immersing the listener in a classic but modern environment. Every track is painstakingly constructed, with layers of instrumentation that change with each listen and disclose new information.” - Kamil Bobin, The Musical Road

MUSEUMS

Montreal's Museums is the psychedelic, shoegaze, indie-rock project of Ali Kouri, Nic Barkun, Anthony Kameka, and Lou Raskin. Their music is characterized by impulsive, evocative vocals coupled with dense, layered guitars, distortion, and driving drums.

Despite being a young band, Museums has performed in venues across Quebec, Ontario, Germany & the Netherlands, in notable spaces such as NXNE, Festival sur le Canal, Rirkrit Tiravanija’s untitled 1996 installation at Fondation PHI, Gain Fest and Nuit Blanche for Montréal Boreal. They were also awarded a fully-funded sound recording residency at ArtHaus in Toronto, which took place in January 2025.

In 2024, Museums released their debut EP, Sink Your Teeth in My Brain. Their latest singles, In Waves and Ur Best, released in Spring 2025 via Petit Village Records.
